Monday...
Today is Memorial Day. It's easy to forget this day and push through. I am so thankful to all the friends and family who have sacrificed to serve in one way or the other. I think of my grandpa, gone now almost two years. He served in WWII. I miss his stories of those times he spoke of with fondness. Yes, fondness, as he was stationed on a boat as a radio operator and did not see action, thank God!
Monday found us at the lake, hot and tired, so we ate a hearty breakfast, packed up and made the long drive home. I do not take for granted the safety we traveled in. I prayed for mercy and was granted that request. I do not take for granted our protection this weekend. So much could have gone wrong. On the way up alone there were two close calls! The weather was harsh and I was ill. I could have been a lot worse. I could go on and on!

Tuesday...
The guy was supposed to come back and paint today, but so far he is a no show. This means I will have another day without a working stove. *sigh* If my dear mother had not brought us a home baked pizza yesterday, we'd have starved. OK, not really, but it was that or another round of turkey sandwiches! (Thanks, Mom!)
We have started another week of summer enrichment. The kids seem OK with our plan. Jeff made us a check off form which is pretty handy to have.
Tonight we'll have leftover (that was frozen) BBQ chicken for sandwiches, green beans, and strawberries.

| See how well the new matches the old? |
Stressful morning, until I realized I had the power to make it less crazy! I was worried that the men would not come back to paint today, thus making a longer wait for the stove. I also knew I needed to get food, take a couple DVDs back to the library to avoid fines, and we were out of bread. I could not do all the running around I needed to do and wait for the guys. *Grr* Thankfully, they came before lunch. They painted the cabinets and I was amazed at how the paint matches the old. We ate a quick bread less lunch, then dashed off to the library to also sign up for the summer reading program. While there, we walked right into their free milkshake program! Yay! The kids got to make and drink their own. On the way home, we stopped at Great Harvest and the kids got big slices of free cinnamon raisin bread! We got home in time to regroup before the exciting, surprise visit from Grandpa and Grandma occurred. Grandpa brought his bee suit and the boys got to try it out with the smoker. Fun stuff! After they left, I grilled burgers and brats. Jeff got home, we ate and then the two of us went grocery shopping so that I'd be free to wait around on Thursday for the electrician and mulch. Whew!

Thursday...
Got up to a lovely cooler morning, so we had oatmeal and then got busy weeding. I learn a lot of lessons from weeding.
- If I avoid weeding all spring, it is much harder and I feel super guilty until it is done, so why do I wait until the end of May?
- Taking care of what God has provided is right and good.
- Weed killer spray is not really evil, if used sparingly!
- Take ibuprofen and allergy meds before and then take a shower right after!
- It never takes as long as I imagine it will take!
Also, the electrician is coming this morning. Yay! If only he can complete his work in one day and then if only the stove is in stock and able to be delivered quickly! If only! (Not getting my hopes up, so the slow cooker will be filled with pasta sauce for tonight.)
Friday...
Getting the house in order for small group before 10AM is my top priority this morning. AT 10, Mom comes to take us with her to see Grandma today, which will make for a full day, but a satisfying one! The weekend will be one spent dealing with this...
We got one small bed done before it rained yesterday. I am glad that the weekend is supposed to be cooler.
Have a great weekend!
~Jenn

Wow, your library has milkshakes? That's pretty cool. Maybe you could get your small group to spread mulch with you, teehe. Have a SUPER weekend.
ReplyDeleteTrevor said the same thing about the mulch, Jane! LOL. And the milkshakes thing was a special program showing the kids how much cheaper it is to make things at home, as well as simple! Good lesson.
DeleteSo true how we really have the power to make our lives less crazy!! Why I rarely take advantage of that power I don't know. haha!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great week. I really hope the stove gets delivered and that you get to use it soon. Your library does such fun things, you are truly blessed. :)
ReplyDeleteWeeds will aways sneek through the liner! I was surprised to learn that this year. But like you I procrastinated and it takes longer when they are bigger and have more roots. What a blessing the mulch is!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good week of learning all around. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.... with your new cooker!
Always so interesting to read, how you experienced your week. Even though there are sometimes some English words that I do not understand, through your photos I understand more. :-) I wish you a week without stress! How's the cat?
ReplyDeleteJenn, I hope you are not starving for much longer.
ReplyDeleteLove the beesuit. Your men are brave!
Have a lovely Sunday
