| This is all you need! |
Anyway, I recently rediscovered my French press. (So glad I did not give it away.) Oh, what joy! I really did miss it's rich, deep, almost chocolate-like flavor. However, let me say, if you are not a coffee snob, you're probably better off just using your old drip coffee maker because there is a huge difference in taste that you might not appreciate. :-)
To make about two 8-12 oz. cups of coffee in the French press, I first heat the water in the kettle, and coarse grind my espresso beans in the grinder. I put the ground coffee in the brew pot, about 1/2 cup of coffee. Pour the hot water over the grounds. Put the lid on the press and set my timer for 4 minutes. When the timer goes off, I press down on the plunger and serve the coffee.
One thing I noticed is that when I have regular brewed coffee, I need a lot of cream. When I drink pressed coffee, I use a lot less. It just tastes so good that I don't need as much sugar or cream.
Do you press or drip? Or *gasp* not at all?

I am a not coffee person myself. I love the smell of coffee brewing though (I love it when my Mom comes to visit and I wake up to the smell of coffee every morning). I do enjoy my husband's hunting buddy has a french press mug so he can take care of his own coffee while here before and after the hunt.
ReplyDeleteI need two french press mugs for camping season! I've found that if a person loves the smell, a taste for coffee can be cultivated. Just ask my husband and youngest son!
DeleteActually, I'm a jasmine green tea person...but I love coffee, too. Now it's just a treat. I had the greatest little French press and loved the coffee it produced, but I broke the carafe and haven't had it since. Guess I need to get busy and replace it!
ReplyDeleteYes, go get a replacement! I wish I like tea. I do drink it when I am sick. It's so soothing.
DeleteI saw one of those yesterday at Goodwill & thought it might be fun for the girls, but didn't know what to do with it, so I didn't buy it. Is the coffee stronger with a French press? Much more expresso-ie-like? Anna like expresso & Amber loves mocha, so maybe they would like it???
ReplyDeleteOh, Jane, that's too bad! Yes, it is deeper, richer, more like espresso and you need much less. It's almost like drinking dark chocolate!
DeleteOk, I'm going to have to try. I'm an equal opportunity hot beverage drinker. I drink tea every day, and coffee most days. I love a good cup of coffee. I like the idea of it being almost dark chocolate-like. Thank you, Jenn!
ReplyDeletehmmmmm Although I must not be tempted.. ha ha ha as a natural black coffee drinker anyhow.. I wonder if this would cause me to have cream.. ha ha ha
ReplyDeleteI don't have a coffee maker but I do have a French press!
ReplyDeleteI do love the the pressed coffee, but lately I have just been buying instant flavored coffees (mocha, hazelnut, etc) because they are quick, easy and cheap (Good beans are rather expensive!) You may have just encouraged me to pull my press out of the cupboard again, though. ;-)
GASP....not at all!!! I do not like coffee or any hot drink for that matter, heehe
ReplyDeleteJenn,
ReplyDeleteThat press is so cute! I'm afraid I fall into the not at all or rarely but with Taster's Choice instant. Shameful, I know but that is what I like. :)

Nope, not a coffee drinker any more. I do drink decaf once in a blue moon, but the caffeine was not good with my body. Glad you have something you enjoy so much.
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of coffee, but I only drink it if I need to drive when I'm tired and then (gasp) I mix instant into a cup of hot milk.
ReplyDeleteI am not really able to deal with caffeine very well.
Enjoy your coffee!
